Smartfren, a prominent LTE-Advanced operator in Indonesia, has selected P.I. Works as the sole supplier of the field proven uSON solution.

As a part of the contract, Smartfren will deploy uSON’s Centralized SON and Performance Management products across its entire network.

Smartfren’s radio network consists of mixed TDD and FDD-LTE-Advanced bands powered by the equipment of multiple vendors that are intermixed in the same geography wherein macro and small-cells use shared spectrum. As such, P.I. Works uSON will play a key role in the automated management of Smartfren’s heterogenous network and in accelerating Smartfren’s transition to 5G.

Smartfren pursued the TDD-FDD LTE strategy with Nokia’s carrier aggregation technology to deliver a best in class LTE-A service. The operator’s CDMA spectrum of 850 MHz is being reused for FDD. This was not enough to serve the capacity demand on its own, so TD-LTE at 2300 MHz was added to meet this need.

Christian Daigneault, CTO, Smartfren
We have an ambition to grow our LTE-Advanced network and deliver a premium experience to Smartfren’s growing subscriber base. We see P.I. Works as a long term, strategic partner in this endeavor.

Tuna Toker, GM APAC, P.I. Works
The growing network complexity and traffic requires automated network optimization and intelligent harmonization of the network configuration policies. P.I. Works uSON platform is very well equipped to address these requirements of Smartfren and we are committed to empowering Smartfren to deliver seamless mobility experience while preparing its network for 5G.
