OpenVault, the leading provider of easy-to-use tools to help Multiple System Operators (MSOs) increase revenues, reduce costs and manage growth, has recently launched an enhanced Policy Control platform which tracks high-speed data (HSD) use within “micro” timeframes, allowing MSOs to establish micro HSD caps and giving them the ability to enforce bandwidth management policies automatically and without new hardware. The new solution enables immediate capital reduction and customer satisfaction, without additional capital expenditure in new handwares.
"MSOs currently spend a significant portion of their budgets on expanding the capacity of their HSD networks solely to accommodate bandwidth consumed during peak times. What’s more, studies have shown that 1 percent of subscribers generate up to 40 percent of peak period usage. OpenVault’s HSD MicroCaps identifies those subscribers in real-time and automatically enforces policies to manage, but not cut off, their bandwidth. This drastically balances peak usage spikes and reduces or defers the need to increase network capacity.
"While monthly usage caps have some effect on congestion by limiting the impact of the biggest users, caps for peak hours can produce much better results in terms of overall service levels and cost avoidance” said OpenVault’s CEO, Mark Trudeau. “The MicroCaps platform will let our MSO customers achieve immediate results, get out of firefighting mode and take an engineered approach to network upgrades that benefit all their subscribers.”
