A major wireless carrier has selected Zayo for a small cell solution to densify its network in Napa Valley, California. The solution will consist of 23 new route miles of network that will connect more than 50 new small cell sites, said Zayo in a statement.

Napa Valley, the heart of California wine country, is a growing center for travel and tourism. The solution is expected to significantly improve the wireless carrier’s existing coverage and capacity, particularly in the popular downtown area.

Small cell technology is increasingly being used to boost network capacity so wireless carriers can keep up with the accelerating demand for bandwidth, and to prepare their networks for 5G technology.

Zayo’s small cell solutions include fiber backhaul and fronthaul, as well as full turnkey implementation, including site selection, site acquisition, permitting and installation of equipment. These installations are providing enhanced mobile coverage, capacity and bandwidth in high-usage areas.

This expanded footprint in Northern California will enable Zayo to provide communications infrastructure solutions to other entities with a need for dark fiber and high bandwidth transport services in Napa. In addition to tourism, healthcare providers and schools in the area are among the potential customers who could benefit from these solutions.
