2014 marked the beginning of a revolutionary phase in mobile communications, with voice communications being enabled on data via Voice-over-LTE(VoLTE). Converging the LTE technology and IP Multimedia Subsystem, the data network now boasts the ability to offer HD Voice as a native application. 2014 saw early movers rolling out their VoLTE services as the first generation VoLTE-enabled smart devices started becoming available in the market.
According to Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), as at end of the third quarter of last year, Mobile HD Voice Service has been commercially launched in 75 countries by 116 Mobile Operators, out of which 9 were VoLTE rollouts and another 2 on HSPA/VoLTE networks. PCC Mobile Broadband has followed the VoLTE segment closely and we are enlisting here a number of VoLTE commercial trials/launches which took place last year including the solutions and technologies, especially the IMS, that enabled telecom operators to achieve another milestone in their service offerings.
