Telenor has launched a friendly customer trial in Denmark to test the quality and capacity of its new Wi-Fi Calling service, debuting the service on selected iPhone 6 models. Telenor aims to find solutions to mobile not-spots such as in-buildings basements and also concrete buildings and houses with environmentally friendly insulating glass. During the pilot period, Wi-Fi Calling will be available to users using the Apple iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S and 6S Plus handsets, with more compatible devices to follow. Telenor plans to launch the service later this year, after its completes the trial. The operator is conducting the trial as part of its effort to provide better 4G coverage to its customers. It said that it now covers 94% of all Danish households with 4G LTE.

Early this year, the largest Operator in Denmark, TDC announced a technical trial of WiFi Calling service, while 3 has already launched the service to its customers.

Peter Ditlev Nodbak, Network Director , Telenor
It's a whole new way of thinking mobile coverage and a major achievement for the Danes, who have been frustrated by having fluctuating indoor coverage in their homes. Although we are close to having the technology ready, so there are many different factors that can affect the use and experience of WiFi calling. Therefore, we are testing now the technology among our customers, so we can gain experience before the actual launch later this year.
