M1 in partnership with Mastercard announced the launch of Apple Pay to its customers in Singapore, promising a secure and convenient means of making payments online using mobile devices. Visa and MasterCard card users from five leading local banks - DBS, OCBC Bank, POSB, Standard Chartered and UOB - can add them to Apple Pay.

In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch.

Last month, another leading operator in Singapore, StarHub become the first to launch the service in the country, but the service was only limited to American Express cardholders.

Apple Pay has security and privacy at the core. When customers use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on the user's device. In addiiton, each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.
