Vodafone India announces its plans to launch 4G service in five of the main cities in the country - Mumbai, Dehli ,Kolkata, Bangalore & Kochi - by December this year. The deployment will be part of the first wave of a rollout that it said to contribute to 50 percent of the Operator's total data revenues.

The second largest mobile operator in India said that for Mumbai alone, it has invested more than INR 500 crores to modernize and upgrade the existing network and has deployed over 1000 sites over the past 6 months. 

For Delhi, the first wave of 4G rollout will include key corridors in the city, with Vodafone having invested more than 350 crores to modernize and upgrade existing voice and data network. The Operator has installed more than 550 sites in the area for the last 6 months. 

As for Kolkata, Vodafone said that it has rolled out over 250 sites in the past 6 months, investing over Rs. 960. The first wave of the 4G rollout in this city will include the Central Business District and other important business and residential areas.

No details of investments and progress are given for Bangalore and Kochi.
