Videotron, Canadian Multi Service Operator (MSO), Monday announced the readiness of its 1Gbps broadband service for households and businesses in the Greater Montréal area, after testing the service for few months. The service, now being tested is supported by DOCSIS 3.0 technology, new modems and optimized network architecture.

According to Videotron, the pilot project’s resultsconfirmed the reliability and robustness of Videotron’s hybrid network and its ability to deliver advanced services to their customers.

The Operator also plans to leverage on the next version of the technology, DOCSIS 3.1, which is expected to be available in 2016 to enable much higher speeds. This new network upgrade will equip Videotron to effectively meet spiralling daily Internet use by consumers, fuelled by the proliferation of Internet-connected devices and the explosive growth of television streaming services, home automation and the Internet-of-Things.

Manon Brouillette, President and CEO of Videotron
It is with great pride that we announce today that we have passed another milestone in the history of Videotron Internet service. We have always been a trailblazer in this area. Over the past 10 years, we have introduced a series of high-speed Internet access services, each faster than the last, in order to meet consumers’ steadily expanding needs. Reaching the gigabit per second threshold in this technological test makes the potential of our state-of-the-art network that much more palpable.
