Telecom Italia launches 'Superfibra', a new ultra-broadband service with over 3 times the speed compared to its current service, promising its subscribers a greater online experience, especially for streaming HD videos, high quality multi-player online gaming and for supporting simultenous access to multimedia content on smartphones, tablets and smart TVs.

The service, which boasts 50Mbps download speeds and 10Mbps upload, is enabled by Telecom Italia's FTTCab (Fibre to the Cabinet) architecture. Telecom Italia said that the ultra-broadband service is already available in more than 130 cities, covering more than 30% of its population and projected to reach 75% by the end of 2017.

At the same time, added Telecom Italia, it has also initiated a FTTCab technology test with “vectoring” feature, which allows the performance of VDSL data transmission to be significantly improved, ensuring speeds of up to 100 Mbps for downloads and up to 50 Mbps for uploads

In its statement, Telecom Italia said that it has planned an investment of 10 billion euros over the next 3 years for the development of its Next Generation Access Network (NGAN), with half of the allocation being dedicated for network and service innovation.

Marco Patuano, CEO of Telecom Italia
We want to offer our customers increasingly advanced services characterized by high quality standards – stated  – and we can do this thanks to performance enabled by the new ultra-broadband networks that we are developing in the country with a challenging investment program. The faster connection speed we will provide from April onwards represents an important evolutionary step of the potential offered by the FTTCab architecture, which in this way confirms itself as one of the key factors in the pursuit of our strategy to enhance the fixed line segment even through an offer of valuable multimedia contents.
