Finnish carrier Elisa and Fortumo this week launched direct carrier billing for Google Play in the country.

More than 2 million Elisa subscribers can now pay for content from the app store by charging purchases to their phone bill. This is the second launch of Google Play carrier billing between Elisa and Fortumo, as the two companies have been working together in Estonia since 2017.

Fortumo helps telcos launch Google Play carrier billing with minimal investment by taking care of the project management and technical integration to Google’s platform.

While the majority of Finns have a credit card, the simplicity and security of carrier billing has made it one of the preferred payment options for digital content in the country, said Fortumo.

Petteri Svensson, VP, Connectivity, Elisa
Elisa is pleased to launch the service together with Google and Fortumo for its customers. We believe this co-operation will be beneficial to our subscribers and parties involved. Purchasing digital content with Elisa Mobile Payment is safe, easy and reliable way to make payments online.

Taavi Krusell, VP Carrier Sales, Fortumo
Digital content enablement is today one of the key aspects which help telcos distinguish themselves from the market. Fortumo makes it easier for telcos to pursue this strategy by providing a simple solution for connecting their subscriber base to the world’s largest digital merchants.
