Ooredoo Group announced at MWC that its first 5G New Radio (NR) network has gone live in Doha, Qatar with speeds of 2.3 Gbps with 3.5 ms latency.

With the rollout, Ooredoo Group claims to be the world's first operator to launch 5G network. Designed for business customers, Ooredoo will continue to expand the footprint of 5G network by using the 3.5 GHz band

The 5G network will double the speed of current 4G network. 5G will transform daily lives, organisations, and industry verticals benefiting the speed and ultra-low latency, said Ooredoo. Applications of 5G could include autonomous vehicles, robotic surgery, and augmented and virtual reality sports.

At the same time, the Operator announced that it will collaborate with Nokia for the 5G deployments this year in Qatar. Ooredoowill be using Nokia's commercially available 5G-ready products, such as the AirScale radio platform and 5G Adaptive Antenna System based on 3GPP Rel. 15 New Radio.
