Hutchison Global Communications (HGC), the fixed-line arm of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong, and Telenor have announced a peering agreement to interconnect their IPX networks.

HGC and Telenor signed the IPX-peering agreement with the aim of enabling mobile network operators (MNOs) and carriers served by the two companies to exchange IP traffic in a secure and high-quality manner. This will enable customers to roam seamlessly across IPX platforms run by HGC and Telenor, granting extended coverage along with an enhanced voice and mobile data experience.

Furthermore, the collaboration will enable HGC and Telenor to deliver greater reach to MNOs via their IPX networks in Asia and Europe. Carriers, multinational corporations and consumer customers served by thetwo companies will henceforth enjoy seamless integrated service in terms of signaling and dataroaming, as well as Voice-over-IPX (VoIPX) and Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) roaming, plus HD video calling and conferencing.

European MNOs are facinga surge in traffic volume after the ‘Roam like at Home’ initiative goes live in June, when EU-basedtravellers will no longer have to pay roaming tariffs anywhere in the EU. Hutch IPX also allows exchange of traffic madeup of content and applications, and ensures Application-to-Person (A2P) messages reach mobile users.
