Rakuten Mobile this week announced that it will acquire a part of JTOWER's shares from JTOWER's President and CEO Atsushi Tanaka, and will strengthen cooperation to promote network development utilizing infrastructure sharing.

Rakuten Mobile has been gradually increasing the number of indoor infrastructure sharing solutions using JTOWER's shared equipment since January 2020. Rakuten Mobile also started using Smart Pole, one of the outdoor infrastructure sharing solutions developed by JTOWER in the Nishi-Shinjuku area of Tokyo. By utilizing infrastructure sharing, it is possible to develop a network in a short period of time and at low cost compared to the case where equipment is installed by a mobile carrier alone.

In order to contribute to the development of a wider network, JTOWER realized the provision of Japan's first 5G indoor infrastructure sharing solution at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in 2020 which fully supports 5G.

Rakuten Mobile and JTOWER will deepen their cooperation with this capital tie-up, promote infrastructure sharing with shared facilities and towers for indoor and outdoor use.
