China Mobile, the world's largest mobile operator, Monday announced that it aims to reach 500 million 4G users next year, doubling from its 248 million 4G connections at the end of third quarter. The operator added roughly 58 million 4G subscribers in this quarter. The significant growth in the wireless broadband segment started after the operator received its full FDD LTE license in February.
"We will build 300,000 new 4G base stations in 2016 so that we can offer better 4G networks to more consumers," said Li Huidi, Vice-President of China Mobile. Selling smartphones is a quite important way for China Mobile to acquire 4G users."
Meanwhile, China Mobile's total mobile subscribers reached approximately 194 million as at the end of September, representing a cumulative net increase of 8.72 million for the quarter, of which 137 million are 3G /4G subscribers..
China Mobile now has 940,000 4G basestations and 189m 4G users. 1,000 4G handset models on sale, lowest price is $40.
