Analysys Mason White PaperAnalysys Mason and Openet joined hands to produce a white-paper titled 'Creating a Real-Time Infrastructure for BSS and Revenue Management', which highlights the communication service providers' (CSPs) need to have real time revenue management capabilities to respond to newer business models such as the digital services -direct operator billing and the ever changing market driven by proliferation of smartphones, 4G LTE, increased competition and partnership opportunities.

'Increasingly, communication service provides (CSPs) are being driven to do more processing in real time to provide differentiated services and a superior customer experience. This is having a profound impact on the underlying systems used by CSPs and in many cases it requires the transformation of currently installed software solutions and a change to established processes. Real-time capability is critical for new telecoms service offerings that require the use of policy management and online charging systems, but is also significant for other new service types (direct carrier billing, for example). The move to a real-time environment to enhance the customer experience enables CSPs to introduce offers that are more relevant to both prospective and existing customers, and thus helps to generate new revenue streams. It also provides better customer information and enables self-service options to be offered. Each of these developments helps to reduce churn and increases the likelihood of current customers recommending services to others. Creating a real-time billing support system (BSS) environment is highly complex and requires significant changes to most of the established processes and systems used by a CSP. These systems potentially include the billing and charging systems, the policy management system and the analytics tools that it uses. In most cases, development of real-time capability involves significant changes to these systems and requires careful project planning and implementation.'
