Stephanie Huf, VP Marketing and Public Affairs, Ericsson Takes the Women Leadership in ICT Development Award by CMO Asia

Stephanie Huf, VP Marketing and Public Affairs, EricssonStephanie Huf, the Vice President for Marketing and Public Affairs for Southeast Asia and Oceania was recently conferred the Women Leadership in ICT Development Award by CMO Asia based on her role in re-establishing Ericsson's presence in Myanmar and contributing towards the development of Myanmar's telecommunications infrastructure and services.

Myanmar which has a population of 52.8 million, has recently opened its doors to global telecommmunications service providers to start developing its commercial mobile services. With a huge market and strong potential demand for connectivity and access to information, Myanmar presents ample growth opportunities for service providers and solution vendors who can assist the country in catching up with the rest of the region which in the recent years, has grown rapidly in terms of mobile infrastructure and service offerings, including widespread coverage of 3G and 4G LTE services.

According to a statement,  Ericsson started its office in Myanmar in 2012, and Huf led the efforts on corporate responsibility and sustainability on behalf of the Southeast Asia and Oceania region in collaboration with Ericsson’s corporate Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility team. Huf played a significant role in building the capacity for local regulations, supporting telecoms reform and via engagement with stakeholders in Myanmar, also undertook the Human Rights Impact Assessment. Huf's work builds on the larger initiative by Ericsson to deliver future mobile communications services to the country and meet the aspiration of its people as shared in Ericsson's documentary film "Connecting Myanmar" made last year and its “The potential economic impact of telecoms in Myanmar” report published in 2012.

“Telecoms will play a vital role in the development of Myanmar and bring new opportunities to communities and help transform industry. It has been a privilege to be able to participate in the early stage of the development of the ICT sector, and to help bring international experience to support the development of a healthy local industry.”

-  Stephanie Huf, Vice President for Marketing and Public Affairs for Southeast Asia and Oceania

"We commend Ms. Huf’s and Ericsson’s efforts to ensure that ICT’s contribution to the development of a country, in this case Myanmar, is understood and appreciated by all relevant stakeholders."
