Silicon Valley-based Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring startup, Roambee, Thursday said it has raised $4.1 million, with $3.1 million coming from Deutsche Telekom(DT) Strategic Investments. Roambee, which was founded in 2013, had raised $2.5 million from undisclosed investors in May 2016.
The company has also secured a global IoT partnership with the DT's corporate customer arm, T-Systems to offer a real-time visibility solution for goods and assets in the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Together, employing an “on-demand” pay-per-use business model, the two companies are delivering an end-to-end solution featuring real time visibility, tracking, and condition monitoring of shipments and assets in-transit and in-field.
Roambee will provide pre-built Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications that include wireless portable sensor devices and cloud-based software, robust reporting, and predictive analytics. The solution will be provided on
Roambee's solution consists of three components: firstly, a GSM/GPS (Global System for Mobile Communications/Global Positioning System) module that sends data to the cloud. Secondly, a hardware platform that can be equipped with a variety of sensors. And thirdly, a battery boasting outstanding energy management, with a life of between 90 days and up to six years.
