India's Uninor has been rebranded as Telenor India, in a move that its parent company, Telenor Group said will spend around Rs 100 crore over the next two to three months to market the new brand in its six operational circles. The entity, fully owned by Telenor Group, changes its brand identity along with legal company name as Telenor India Communications Pvt. Ltd.
“Uninor is now Telenor. This rebranding exercise shows our commitment to the customers and the stakeholders in this country. India is a tough market. We are taking a stand that we will continue to develop ourselves,” said Telenor Group’s head of Asia region Morten Karlsen Sorby.
Since its launch in 2009, Uninor has emerged as a preferred mass-market brand and has grown steadily to capture the fourth position in most of its operating circles. As part of the name change to Telenor India, the company expands on its promise of being the most affordable to being best on value. This promise is articulated as being fair and surprisingly easy.
“This is about more than changing a brand name. This is about preparing Telenor India for a new and exciting future. By taking a broader, value-driven position, Telenor India will appeal to new audiences with innovative services and a customer-first approach. We believe that the fundamentals in India remain strong with a large and young population and solid economic growth. However, a large part of the population remains unconnected to modern telecom services,” said Sigve Brekke, President and CEO, Telenor Group.
