In conjunction with MWC Barcelona 2022 which will be taking place from the 28th of February to the 3rd of March, Tara Neal, Executive Editor of The Fast Mode spoke to Anatoli Levine, Director of Products and Standards at Softil on the company's plans and showcases for this year's event.
Tara: What do you think MWC 2022 will be all about? And what are your MWC 2022 plans?
Anatoli: While 5G deployments are in the early stages, the world is ready to move past it so we can expect to hear more about 6G plans. Ubiquitous connectivity anywhere anytime as well as ubiquitous mobile broadband and the applications it enables will grab attention. Conversations about Metaverse (and some NFTs) will be unavoidable, and of course security and cyber security will top the mindset of speakers and attendees alike. Softil will not be attending MWC 2022, but we look forward to future events.
Tara: How has the pandemic impacted the operational and business landscape of the tech segment you are operating in?
Anatoli: Thanks to the advanced virtual collaboration environments (Zoom, Teams, and many others), the pandemic was less impactful than it could have been. Products had still been developed and deployed, and work continued almost as usual, with some of the business processes taking longer than they would be in the non-virtual environment, and consensus taking longer to achieve. But good progress had been made overall with some of the areas such as virtual banking, virtual judicial solutions, virtual fitness and virtual healthcare having significant capability (and acceptance) boosts.
Tara: What emerging trends/technologies have you observed in your tech segment in recent months?
Anatoli: Softil’s primary focus is in the mission-critical communications space (MCX). Over the last few months, we have observed increased MCX activities in terms of actual market deployments of mission-critical communications networks and services in public safety, utilities, transportation, and others. There is a good level of maturity and readiness, as well as initial deployments of the solutions, from handheld devices to dispatch control rooms, dual-mode radios to LMR/LTE gateways, and to recording solutions, so the world of mission-critical communications is starting to embrace broadband capabilities to enable the new era of rich communication capabilities for public safety, mining, railways, oil and gas, airports, and many more sectors.
Anatoli Levine is Director of Products and Standards for Softil, Ltd., responsible for developing strategy and product roadmap for the Softil’s portfolio of enabling products for developers, including technologies such as Mission Critical Communications (MCC) over LTE and 5G, WebRTC, VoLTE/ViLTE/RCS, SIP, IMS and many others.
