In conjunction with MWC Barcelona 2022 which will be taking place from the 28th of February to the 3rd of March, Tara Neal, Executive Editor of The Fast Mode spoke to Brian Klaff is Vice President of Marketing at Ethernity Networks on the company's plans and showcases for this year's event.
Tara: What do you think MWC 2022 will be all about? And what are your MWC 2022 plans?
Brian: MWC 2022 has the potential to address a number of different themes. First and foremost, it will be about re-connecting face-to-face after nearly two years of mostly virtual conferences. While there have been a number of hybrid events over the past 6 months, MWC going fully live is an indication that the industry is ready to return to its former standard when it comes to expos. Another major topic of interest will be whether disaggregated solutions have advanced enough to be taken seriously. If there are enough major operators and system integrators who think so, it will open the door to a flood of best-in-class solutions to be considered as competition for the traditional monolithic vendors.
Tara: How has the pandemic impacted the operational and business landscape of the tech segment you are operating in?
Brian: The biggest impact to Ethernity’s tech segment has come less from the pandemic itself and more from the global component shortage. We have largely been able to overcome this so that our customer deliveries have been mostly unaffected, but it is an ongoing concern that is worth tracking.
Tara: What emerging trends/technologies have you observed in your tech segment in recent months?
Brian: We are seeing the emergence of Access Gateway Functionality as a comprehensive common core infrastructure that supports both fixed and wireless access, offering an advancement on traditional Broadband Network Gateways by incorporating the traffic management for mobile, fixed wireless, and wireline access networks all-in-one. Ethernity’s FPGA-based Universal Edge Platform appliance with patented link bonding is an ideal solution to provide this Access Gateway Functionality in disaggregated, programmable hardware.
