Social network giant, Facebook is including the Uber feature onto its Messenger app. Uber, a taxi hauling app allows mobile users to book their rides online. The new Uber feature on Facebook's Messenger app will allow Facebook users to book their Uber rides without having to use the Uber app. The latest addition to Facebook's increasingly popular Messenger app builds on the app's existing functions, namely picture sharing, money remittance, and mobile commerce facilitation.

Once user’s have linked an existing Uber account to Messenger and requested an Uber using the new Transportation option, they will be sent driver updates and payment receipts via a private conversation with Uber. For a limited time, users are promised a free ride the first time they use this feature (up to $20 value).

Facebook Product Manager, Seth Rosenberg wrote in a blog post that, "Today, we’re expanding the services available to you with our launch of transportation on Messenger. With this new feature, you can request a ride from a car service without ever needing to download an extra app or leave a conversation. It’s super easy and doesn’t take you away from the plans that you’re making with your friends or family." This service is currently in testing and will be available to select users in the locations where Uber operates in the United States, before it becomes available across other countries.
