Software network virtualization firm, Midokura recently unveiled its latest Midokura Enterprise MidoNet (MEM), MEM 5.0 solution which includes MEM Insights, a new technology that brings advanced analytics and dynamic visualization to OpenStack environments.

According to Midukura, MEM 5.0 that is designed for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offers an intelligent, software-based network abstraction layer between the hosts and the physical network, allowing operators to build isolated networks in software overlaying pre-existing hardware-based network infrastructure. Designed for distributed computing, MEM provides per-tenant network control so that operators can create and make changes to the virtual network without disturbing the physical infrastructure via the intuitive MidoNet Manager.

The new solution supports NFV use cases via MEM’s service chaining technology to virtualize network nodes. The result is technology preview integration with Intel Security Controller (ISC), allowing for easy implementation of virtual machine and container level security policies.

Operational tools are generally geared towards configurations, monitoring in OpenStack, but they offer no visibility into encapsulated traffic. From Midokura’s own experience as an operator, and by working with operators ourselves, we’ve seen firsthand the dire need for analytic and end-to-end operational tools for management of network infrastructure.
