AT&T is enhancing its Domain 2.0, Network on Demand platform with the introduction of Virtual Customer Premises Equipment (vCPE) through partnerships with Cisco, Juniper Networks and Brocade. AT&T aims to utilize Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies to create dynamic, on demand services for its customers.
Under the project, Cisco will focus on Virtual Network Function (VNF) development on its Integrated Service Routers with advanced virtualization capabilities. Juniper will work on software-based appliance, designed to AT&T’s specifications, to enable customers to run multiple virtual functions on one device. At the same time, Brocade will develop cloud-based access routing for the carrier’s Managed Internet Service.
According to AT&T, the enhanced CPE will allow greater flexibility and help reduce costs.
