Indosat partnering with Japan's DoCoMo announced that they have successfully tested embedded SIM (eSIM) M2M services across Indonesia using a commercial device provided by DoCoMo and using the technology platform from Giesecke & Devrient (G&D). This trial aims to test remote activation of the SIM card and SIM card profile exchange between two different M2M platforms that belong to two different operators in different countries.
Last month, both operators have signed an MoU for joint testing for the eSIM Prove of Concept (PoC) for seamless M2M devices connectivity across the Operators' networks. The eSIM is implanted into the M2M device during manufacturing and is activated remotely with the selected M2M subscription profiles available from the local Operator in which area the device will be used.

ESIM technology enables multinational manufacturing customers such as automotive manufacturers, electronics companies (consumer electronics) and manufacturers of devices industry to provide value added services to its customers. A simple example is eSIM benefits for importers of vehicles or car manufacturers. Some brands of built-up vehicles are already equipped eSIM so that car manufacturers can provide value added services to its customers with features such as notification when routine maintenance time notification device including the possibility that the vehicle must be replaced.
