Firefox OS Phone from Mozilla Costs Less than USD60, Grameenphone Subscribers Get Free 20MB Data Daily

Grameenphone, a leading telecommunications service provider in Bangladesh with more than 49 million subscribers introduced the Firefox OS phone which can be bought for less than USD60. The GoFox F15 smartphone developed by Symphony, the leading mobile phone brand in Bangladesh, is expected to drive the uptake of data services in the country.

Grameenphone, which is part of the Telenor Group, said that the GoFox phone comes loaded with the new WowBox service from Telenor Digital, which awards subscribers 20 MB of free data every day. The introduction of the GoFox F15 in Bangladesh adds to the long list of 23 countries where Firefox OS devices are now being sold.

According to a statement from Telenor, it expects the development and usage of Firefox OS phones to become more widespread given its open web platform that enables various new rich applications to be built and offered on smartphones it powers.

We want more customers to experience mobile services on smartphones. By stimulating the Mozilla developer community to create more locally relevant apps coupled with Telenor’s WowBox service, we expect to see increase internet uptake and usage in Bangladesh.
