There is now another reason to be out and about in London, especially if one is a customer of EE. EE, the largest mobile operator in the United Kingdom, has last week announced that its Cash on Tap service will be available on London Underground, DLR and Overground from the 16th of September.

This week, its tops the offer by adding the Transport for London's bus service, which covers a network of 8,600 buses. According to EE, customers will no longer need the Oyster card, contactless debit card or cash as they can just use their mobile devices to pay for their travel fare, avoiding the inconveniences of carrying too many cards and standing in queues for top-ups. All they need to do is download the Cash on Tap app from Google Play store on compatible Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One and Sony Xperia Z2.

EE's Cash on Tap service was launched last year as part of its expansion into mobile commerce offerings, and the service is presently available at more than 300,000 shops in the UK including Marks and Spencer, McDonald's, Caffe Nero, Pret A Manger and Greggs. EE said that customers will not be paying any extra charges on their travel fares as it has put in place daily and weekly caps where single journeys are priced at £1.45 with daily and Monday to Sunday bus fares are capped at £4.40 and £20.20 respectively.

"More people use London’s buses than all the other bus services across the country combined, so the need for speedy and simple payment solutions is paramount. That’s why we’ve been working hard to bring our contactless mobile payments service, Cash on Tap, to TFL’s network – removing the need for customers to queue for a ticket, or hunt through their pockets and bags to find the right card”.
