This week, Tara Neal, Executive Editor of The Fast Mode, had the opportunity to speak with Nadav Avni, Chief Marketing Officer at Radix on the market opportunity for telcos, operators and even managed services providers to offer new device management infrastructure services.

Tara: How has the need for device management evolved, especially in the context of the fast-paced and interconnected world we live in today?

Nadav: The way organizations manage mobile devices has changed significantly in recent years, largely driven by the new remote working scenarios that were required due to Covid. Mobile Device Management (MDM) has evolved and now operates on the Cloud, giving a complete view of all devices across an organization. MDM today includes features like managing apps and operating systems, enforcing policies and analyzing how devices are used in real-time. MDM is crucial for administrators who need to authenticate, control and manage mobile devices, even when they are not connected to an organization's networks.

Our new concept of Device-Management-as-a-Service (DMaaS) takes the framework of device management a step forward by allowing the device management platform to be used by a managed service provider (MSPs) or similar third party. DMaaS is creating new business opportunities for telcos and MSPs, while offering important operational benefits to their enterprise customers for better managing their fleet of mobile devices.

Tara: Industry reports project substantial growth in the mobile device management market. What factors are contributing to this growth?

Nadav Avni, CMO, Radix

Nadav: We see that the of the demand for mobile device management is being influenced by several factors. First, businesses, both small and large, are increasingly using a variety of devices. Dealing with manual processes to manage these devices is difficult, prompting a demand for more efficient alternatives. To improve productivity and security, businesses are turning to MDM offerings. Second, compliance with government regulations is also driving the growth of MDM. Industries handling sensitive data, such as healthcare, financial services and legal sectors, face a complex regulatory landscape. To meet these requirements, organizations are adopting MDM solutions to ensure that their devices comply with industry-specific regulations, data protection laws and security standards.

Tara: What challenges did businesses face in managing their devices before the advent of DMaaS?

Nadav: Until now, businesses have struggled with manual and time-consuming processes to manage devices, leading to inefficiencies and errors as well as security vulnerabilities. The new generation of MDM solutions clearly alleviate many of these problems and offer an advanced framework for managing mobile devices that include cloud-based architectures, real-time monitoring, strong security policies, remote control capabilities and data encryption.

However, most MDM solutions are complex to deploy and operate. Many require dedicated highly skilled IT personnel, which is beyond the capacity of many end user organizations.

DMaaS removes the need to allocate internal resources for device management purposes and allows end user organizations of all sizes to rely on the infrastructure of their trusted service providers for their device management infrastructure.

Tara: With the popularity of streaming services, how is Android TV being adopted by telco operators and what advantages does it offer in the current market?

Nadav: The growing popularity of streaming services has led telcos, operators and service providers to use Android TV for their set-top boxes. Android TV seamlessly combines traditional and over-the-top (OTT) content, creating a unified platform for diverse media consumption. This allows operators to provide customers with a complete entertainment experience without the need for additional devices. Choosing Android TV not only saves subscribers money, but also meets their desire for simplified, all-in-one solutions. In addition to the financial benefits, Android TV reduces clutter by bringing together various content sources on a single platform and device. By adopting Android TV, operators can cater to evolving consumer preferences, offering a flexible and user-friendly solution that aligns with the trend of integrated, on-demand content.

Tara: Where does Radix’s Android TV Manager fit in with the needs of cable tv and telco operators?

Nadav: Our Android TV Manager provides several benefits for telcos, operators and service providers. Its cloud-based architecture allows easy remote access to many devices, ensuring smooth connectivity for updates, maintenance and security configuration. Unlike older diagnostic alternatives with hardware dependencies and limited capabilities, our Android TV Manager provides a simplified framework. It automates tasks like software updates, security measures and real-time alerts, reducing inefficiencies linked to outdated protocols. In addition, the Android TV Manager can generate detailed reports on device and user behaviors, giving operators and service providers valuable insights for data-driven decision-making.

Our platform is platform is equipped with different modules that cater to all management aspects of the device in its lifetime, including app management, configuration and settings management, remote support, telemetry monitoring and analysis, OTA firmware management and more.

Tara: How do you foresee the future of device management in the context of evolving technologies and consumer demands?

Nadav: The future of device management is closely tied to evolving technologies and consumer preferences. As devices become more diverse and interconnected, efficient management solutions like DMaaS will become increasingly integral. Cloud-based systems, powerful management layers and proactive security measures will likely define the future landscape. The demand for instant, remote solutions, as supported by Android TV Manager, will continue to grow, enabling businesses to adapt swiftly to changing consumer preferences and technological advancements.

Tara: What advice would you give to businesses and service providers looking to adopt DMaaS and Android TV Manager for their device management needs?
