With DTW23 - Ignite taking place tomorrow, Ariana Lynn, Principal Analyst at The Fast Mode spoke to James Kirby, Senior Vice President, Global Telco and Head of EMEA at CSG on his predictions for the next year, the convergence of telco and cloud, as well as any speaking opportunities the company will be participating in at the event.

Ariana: What are some emerging trends and technologies that you expect will power digital transformation in the telco space in the next year?

James: One trend we can expect to see is the growth momentum of B2B2X ecosystems. Telcos are realizing the opportunity and potential impact of investing in B2B2X ecosystems to create a stronger, future-forward business model. By doing so, they can obtain access to new domains such as healthcare, retail and insurance. Telcos also continuously analyze and update where they want to be as a business and investing in B2B2X ecosystems accelerates their ability to grow and expand.

Another digital transformation trend I’m eager to see in the coming year is the highly anticipated evolution of AI, and how it will continue to transform the way telcos do business. Historically, telcos are early adopters of new technology, which has been a major factor in their continued success. These previous successes should give telcos the confidence to explore how emerging generative AI technologies can help improve their internal operations, boost existing platforms and services and enhance how they serve their consumer base.

Ariana: How has the convergence of telco and cloud changed CSP monetization strategies? What are some new growth opportunities?

James: Across the globe, we’ve seen CSPs encounter monetization challenges between the convergence of telco and the cloud. However, the introduction of cloud technology encouraged CSPs to think outside the box. Prioritizing a digital-first approach and adopting cloud-native platforms opens doors for CSPs, allowing them to modernize their business models and accelerate their transformation across the enterprise. Ultimately, this will increase their revenue streams.

In the case of 5G, we’ve seen more CSPs start to prioritize forward-looking perspectives and embrace scalable and flexible solutions that empower enhanced business decisions within the telco market. It’s been exciting to see more and more CSPs make advancements to modernize their business efforts, and subsequently streamline and optimize their operations to make them more future ready.

Ariana: Are there any speaking opportunities that CSG will be taking part in? What are some of the key points that you plan to cover?

James: Yes! I’ll be discussing the capabilities and processes that are helping CSPs leverage cloud technologies to monetize their agility at scale with leaders from RedHat, Bell Canada and Nuuday in a panel session on Tuesday, 19 September at 2PM CEST.

The following day at 11 am CEST, I will be participating in the ‘Monetizing B2B2X Opportunity’ panel with leaders from Digital Labs, Telenor Group and Hansen Technologies, where we will discuss the opportunities and challenges for CSPs to accelerate their digital transformation and how they can remain competitive in the future.
