Vodafone Portugal in partnership with Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies achieved speeds of 1Gbps in a 4G LTE demonstration, making it to become one of the first European operators to achieve Gigabit LTE speeds.

The demonstration included the transmission of files to a Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 LTE mobile test device, showcasing capabilities of Gigabit LTE that enabls opening a web page instantly or downloading a 1GB Ultra HD / 4K video in about ten seconds.

The Gigabit LTE speeds were achieved by upgrading existing software and developing features such as 256QAM modulation (which allows high information transfer rate), as well as through the installation of antennas with 4×4 MIMO technology and 3x Carrier Aggregation in the downlink. In addition, the Operator also enabled 2x carrier aggregation in the uplink plus 64QAM modulation, allowing the user to send files, for example to social media websites, with transfer speeds up to 150Mbps.

This is another milestone in Vodafone Portugal’s innovation history, which, by enhancing its investment in its next-generation mobile network, has helped to significantly improve the users’ telecommunications experience, bringing more advanced technology to its customers, said the Operator.
