Japanese telecoms giant, SoftBank and Cradlepoint, the global leader in cloud-based network solutions announced a partnership to commercially offer a cloud-based WAN service called 'OneLayer'. The Operator will sell the solution as a white-labeled product that will be known as 'WhiteCloud OneLayer'.

OneLayer is a cloud-based WAN overlay service that runs on the Cradlepoint NetCloud platform and utilizes its SDN/NFV technology. Unlike traditional site-to-site network solutions, OneLayer enables secure connectivity to corporate computing resources and public cloud applications from anywhere and any device with end-to-end policy control.

By installing client software on each device, OneLayer provides remote users with secure WAN connectivity over the Internet and a seamless office LAN experience. With OneLayer, a customer can build a secure overlay network in minutes without the complicated site-by-site configuration of traditional networks - dramatically reducing WAN cost and complexity.

All policy control is simple to setup through a cloud-based administration console, and can be applied on a user, device and application basis. Additionally, OneLayer works over any network operator’s infrastructure, so it can be deployed globally—making it ideal for large-scale M2M/IoT deployments. If a customer is already using a private network service like IP-VPN, SoftBank can deliver OneLayer in a hybrid solution with policy mapping that ensures flexible and scalable ICT environments.

According to Cradlepoint, enterprise ICT environments are embracing mobile, cloud and IoT technologies to drive business agility and transformation. This evolution requires always-on connectivity over the public Internet for distributed people, places and things, but with the visibility, security and control of a private network.

George Mulhern, Chief Executive Officer of Cradlepoint
We share a history of innovation and leadership in our respective markets, so SoftBank is the ideal partner to collaborate with to bring the benefits of SDN/NFV technology to customers as a carrier service.
