TIM with HPE Services Italia has won a 5-year cloud computing services contract worth 500 million euros to provide IaaS(Infrastrcuture-as-a-Service), PaaS(Platform-as-a-Service) and SaaS(Software-as-a -Service) to support a cloud transformation project undertaken by the country's Public Administration, called as Consip as part of the Public Connectivity System (SPC).

A temporary consortium which also includes Poste Italiane, Postel and Postecom, will be providing a wide range of cloud services supplied through the TIM and HPE Services Italia nationwide data centres.

More specifically, the IaaS includes virtual servers and storage supplied remotely and made available through infrastructures such as virtual machine services, virtual data centres, virtual networks and virtual storage and back-up. The PaaS will serve as a platform for the development, testing and start-up of applications, while SaaS envisages applications for the management and storage of documents, in addition to collaboration services, individual productivity, unified communication (audio and video conference, messages and presence), data analysis and reports.

TIM and HPE will also be providing a range of Cloud Enabling services, including support in making physical infrastructures virtual and the design and configuration of virtual private cloud and virtual data centre solutions. The collaboration is expected to speed up the public administration digitisation process and the transition to the cloud, with the aim of offering citizens, businesses and institutions with increasingly evolved services.
