Ooredoo announced that it is set to start the trial of an innovative new microwave technology that addresses the anticipated surge in demand for data for video streaming, online gaming, social media and more across Oman. Ooredoo will collaborate with Ericsson on the project.

The first of its kind in the region, the trial will test the Microwave Solutions in E-Band (80 Ghz) technology, or microwave backhauling across Ooredoo’s recently completed nationwide fibre backbone, providing the Gigabit capacity to deliver premium speeds to its fast growing customer base.

In its statement, Ooredoo said that it is forming alliances and partnerships to accelerate its progress and to better meet the needs of its customers, with emphasis on operational execution with consistency and continuity and places the customer, their satisfaction, wants and needs at the heart of all of its activities and plans.

Wolfgang Wemhoff, Chief Technology Officer at Ooredoo Oman
