ZTE claims that it has completed the verification and performance tests of the 5G high-frequency communication and massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) technologies in a test series that was organized recently by the Chinese IMT-2020 5G Promotion Group.

According to ZTE, the tests which were conducted during the last two weeks of May 2016 were fully implemented in both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) scenarios. The high-frequency communication technology section was carried out in Shanghai, while the massive MIMO technology section was carried out in Shenzhen.

The Chinese IMT-2020 5G group formulated the 5G R&D experiment plan with the aim of bringing together the strengths of enterprises, universities and research institutes and push for 5G research in China. The research will be implemented in phases over the next two years, with the first phase having started in September 2015 and scheduled to end in September 2016 focusing on key technology verification and performance testing.
