ZTE claims to be the first in the industry to demonstrate the Narrowband-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) standards verification in China Mobile (CMCC)’s 5G innovation laboratory.

Since the 3GPP NB-IoT standards are expected to be frozen late June, ZTE said that it is following the 3GPP standardization carefully and is ready to launch a series of new technologies and products.

The demo saw the use of a network functions virtualization (NFV)-based virtual core network while ZTE’s commercial 4G base station simulated the real commercial environment, and showcased basic NB-IoT services and some crucial features.

ZTE expects NB-IoT technologies to deliver ubiquitous cellular IoT coverage by 2020. Together with its global partners, ZTE has been promoting and validating the NB-IoT technologies development, and has witnessed large-scale commercialisation of NB-IoT technologies.
