Telefonica Chile (Movistar Chile) announced that it will invest $500 million in fibre-based services with the aim of becoming a full video and Internet provider in the coming years. The telco said that it has invested nearly $3 billion over the last five years to improve its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, through which it delivers IPTV and broadband services.

"We will be a full video and Internet company in three years, which means that by 2019 we expect to have 900k customers connected with fiber optics (from the current 500k households), representing more than 80% customers connected with the technology," said Roberto Muñoz, general manager, Movistar Chile. "We believe that we have an interesting proposal and differentiated value, with a Video-on-Demand catalogue boasting over 2,500 titles including movies, series, documentaries and concerts; and securing 20 new releases every month.
