Nokia has joined the Z-Wave Alliance, a global membership organization dedicated to advancing the popular Z-Wave wireless smart home protocol. The size of the Z-Wave ecosystem and the functionality of the platform will allow Nokia to combine Z-Wave's core offerings of residential gateways for communication and entertainment with gateways that support Internet of Things functionality.
Nokia joins almost 400 additional Z-Wave Alliance members in supporting the Z-Wave standard in smart homes around the world. Z-Wave has experienced unprecedented growth in the past year, with a 25% increase in members and over 50 million devices shipped globally.
Nokia will be implementing Z-Wave in its latest generation of smart home gateway products, said the company.

Smart home is one of our strategic focus areas and the Alliance will absolutely accelerate these efforts. To realize the full potential of the smart home, interoperability is key. Being able to leverage the Z-Wave Alliance renowned certification program and work with Z-Wave vendors who have already been certified will significantly support our ability to deliver a robust offering.
Mitchell Klein, executive director of the Z-Wave Alliance
With their stellar reputation in the telecommunications industry and their gateway product, Nokia will be an excellent addition to the myriad of diverse smart home devices in our ecosystem.
