Telecom Italia(TIM) announced that its fiber-based ultra-broadband service has now reached approximately 1,100 Italian municipalities providing speeds in excess of 100 Mbit/s, up to 1Gbps. The operator's 4G mobile broadband service in the meantime has reached 6,300 municipalities.

The operator added that it now reaches over 45% of properties with fixed ultrabroadband services, and over 91% of the population with 4G. Telecom Italia targets to bring fiber optics to 84% of homes and to have 98% mobile ultrabroadband coverage by the end of 2018.

TIM said that it will continue to drive the digitization of the country. It plans to invest 12 billion euros as part of its investments for the next three years, where 4.8 billion will be dedicated to the development of ultrabroadband (3.6 billion on fixed and 1.2 billion on mobile).

Giuseppe Recchi, Telecom Italia Group Chairman
The Telecom Italia Group has written the history of telecommunications, performing a fundamental role in building the fixed and mobile network infrastructure. Thanks to the major investment plan dedicated to ultrabroadband, we are proceeding at a rate of  250 km of fibre optic cables laid on average every hour.
