Athonet, VMWare and Ooredoo have partnered to demonstrate 'One click deploy' model for a virtualized LTE mobile packet core & VoLTE service.

During a live demonstration using a commercial LTE smallcell at the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona early this month, the combined team demonstrated how fast “fast” really is, by moving from VNF and EPC/VoLTE service modeling and deployment to first call completion in under 5 minutes, using VMware’s vCloud NFV Platform and Athonet’s high performance virtualized mobile core, including vEPC, vHSS and vIMS fully virtualized mobile service functions. Once the service was running including with live calls being made, “scaling up” of the mobile core was performed live by instantiating other EPC/IMS nodes in under 5 minutes.

The demonstration has proven how Athonet’s high performance virtualized mobile core solution and VMware’s vCloud NFV platform can help MSPs achieve rapid and reliable service deployment and significantly decrease deployment risk.

According to Athonet, to successfully achieve increasingly aggressive business goals, Mobile Service Providers (MSPs) must rapidly deploy new services to meet market demand, strengthen their competitive position and shorten time to realize service revenue.
