Robi Axiata, a leading mobile operator in Bangladesh, has inked a partnership with U2opia Mobile to provide its user base with sponsored data service, Fonepass.

The launch of Fonepass in Bangladesh follows the success of the service in Rwanda via U2opia's partnership with MTN, where it caters to a subscriber base of over 4 million.

An open marketing platform, Fonepass gives access to mobile data through sponsorships, and enables telecom operators to provide subscribers more value, while monetizing its mobile data network. Content providers and other businesses can use this innovative network solution with existing mobile websites and applications.

Robi's prime focus is to spread the use of internet across the country regardless of our subscriber's socio-economic background. In this regard, we feel that Fonepass will help in drawing a large number of new internet users.

Users in emerging markets are increasingly demanding data connectivity but its unavailability and exorbitant data costs continues to leave billions of mobile users, in information darkness.
