Nokia Thursday said that it can manage safe operations of drones via 4G LTE network for base station maintenance and in general for smart city management. Nokia's technology provides centralized monitoring and control of drones through an operator's existing LTE network or dedicated LTE networks run by government or public safety departments, the company said in a statement. The Finnish vendor has partnered with the leading mobile operator in the UAE, du to showcase this in an event in Dubai from February 4th to 6th.

Drones equipped with LTE dongles will be managed via a mobile app for UAV pilot with UTM interface and leveraging a mobile edge computing platform and GPS and access modules for telemetry data. It includes computing and processing components to monitor airspace, view and control drone flight paths and transfer telemetry data as well as establish dynamic no-flight zones.

Joachim Wuilmet, head of Customer Marketing and Communications, Middle East and Africa, Nokia
Nokia’s UTM concept for operators and authorities can enable the safe operation of drones as part of the development of smart cities in UAE and around the globe.
