The Software Defined Networking(SDN) and Network Function Virtualization(NFV) open source initiative, OpenDaylight Project has announced that the Philippines' leading operator, Globe Telecom, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) and Zenlayer have joined the project as Silver level members. ALE is a leading provider of enterprise communications solutions and services, while Zenlayer is a global SDN-based network and data center service provider, headquartered in Los Angeles with branches in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing.

According to Globe Telecom, the quickly evolving telecoms industry needs agile future-proofing through continuous innovation. This requires a flexible framework and collaboration across the networking space. The operator aims to harness the experience and expertise of the OpenDaylight community to support an open SDN and NFV implementation.

Neela Jacques, Executive Director, OpenDaylight
Within the networking industry, we've seen major telecommunications providers emerge as the first to invest heavily in open source technologies such as OpenDaylight. We're now at an inflection point where we're beginning to see web-scale and enterprise organizations embrace open SDN and NFV for their networks.
