UK-based mobile virtual network aggregator (MVNA), x-Mobility has partnered with TokBox, a Telefónica WebRTC company to enable its MVNO and OTT customers to offer video calls to their subscribers. TokBox develops and operates the OpenTok platform, a cloud platform for embedding live video, voice, messaging and screen sharing experiences into websites and mobile applications.

Using the OpenTok platform from TokBox, x-Mobility gives MVNOs and OTTs access to simple APIs which utilise WebRTC – offering real-time access to video calling without the need for plug-ins, app download or other third party extras. The OpenTok platform is device, browser and operating system agnostic. It supports group and one-to-one conversations, includes the ability for users to record calls, and uses encrypted and authenticated infrastructure so that customer data is always private and secure.

In addition, x-Mobility said that it can offer MVNOs services beyond traditional telephony, including 4G data services and Virtual Mobile Number services.

Shanks Kulam, Chief Mobile Officer at x-Mobility
Video is the future of mobile communications. Whether it is keeping in touch with friends and family or having important business conversations, many people prefer video to voice. Our new relationship with TokBox enables MVNOs and OTTs to offer new, exciting services to their user base through video.

Lawrence Ford, Head of Business Development - Europe, TokBox
We know that everyone is taking a close look at video and how it will work for them. So it’s great that MVNOs and OTTs can now easily add our functionality to their services. Video services will soon be a key differentiator for operators, so x-Mobility’s MVNO and OTT customers can now be one step ahead.
