The Internet-of-Things (IoT) Open Interconnect Consortium(OIC), announced its latest members including Accenture, ZTE and ARRIS, bringing its membership to more than 100 organizations. The OIC was founded by Broadcom, Dell, Intel, Samsung, Atmel, and Intel-subsidiary Wind River in July last year, to define a common communications framework based on industry standard technologies to wirelessly connect and intelligently manage the flow of information among personal computing and emerging IoT devices.

OIC said that to date, its members are working on a wide variety of products including a heart rate and blood pressure monitoring wearable, as well as smart home technology such as smart appliances, televisions and home security devices.

The latest move adds to OIC announcement of new members in July, including IBM and National Instruments and its new liaison agreement with the EnOcean Alliance and that it will be collaborating with HyperCat to make IoT devices and data more discoverable and interoperable.

Mike Richmond, executive director at the Open Interconnect Consortium
The continued diversity of OIC’s members and liaison agreements serves as a testament to our commitment to standardize the Internet of Things across all industries and devices. By partnering with a large variety of organizations, we ensure we are building the most robust spec available in today’s segmented technology landscape.
