TIM (Telecom Italia) has selected Alcatel-Lucent to provide microwave link between the Sicilian islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa for ultra-broadband connectivity. The operator has deployed Alcatel-Lucent’s 9500 Microwave Packet Radio platform for the 147km long high capacity (800Mbit/s) and high-availability radio link to support a mix of IP and legacy traffic.
TIM is working with Alcatel-Lucent to leverage its leadership in backhaul technology and ensure continuous connectivity for the residents, organizations and many visitors to Lampedusa and Pantelleria.
