After India's Union Cabinet delivered its decision to allow spectrum sharing between telecom operators on Wednesday, Reliance Jio Infocomm and Reliance Communications (RCOM) are reported to have agreed to sign a pact that will enable the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio to offer 4G services over the 800 MHz band across 10 circles on top of its existing coverage provided on 2.3GHz across the country. The spectrum sharing which will enable optimum utilization of the airwaves is expected to enhance the call quality and also drive data speeds at lesser costs.

The pact sees Reliance Jio having access to 10 MHz continuous spectrum that will allow it to offer 4G services in Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Assam, Uttar Pradesh-East, Bihar, Northeast, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. RCOM on the other hand will enjoy access to Reliance Jio's 4G network in the 10 regions at virtually zero incremental capex costs.

Gearing up for signing the spectrum pact, RCOM is said to have submitted the application to the Department of Telecom to seek permission so that it may progressively liberalize its earlier spectrum of 800 MHz.
