Vodafone Portugal partnering with Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies has demonstrated 600 Mbps on its mobile network using the LTE-Advanced technology to become the first European operator to reach such speeds.

Performed in a laboratory environment, the speeds were achieved using the bandwidth of three aggregated 60MHz frequency bands with the new 256QAM modulation which, in good radio conditions, enables an increase of up to 30% in the current downlink speed.

Vodafone said that the technological innovation will provide improved user experience, making it possible, for example, to open a web page instantly and download a 1GB video in Ultra HD/4K in about 15 seconds.
