Cisco, Thursday announced that it participated in the experimental 4K Broadcast of UEFA Champions league Final on June 6 by French Direct TV, Canal+ Group. The TV station used Cisco's Videoscape AnyRes Live ultra high definition (UHD) encoders for its pioneering broadcast of the UEFA Champions League Final in 4K ultra high definition over Satellite and OTT. Cisco participated in this showcase with a number of vendors who worked together at the request of Canal+ to turn this broadcast into a showcase of 4K UHD technology.
According to Cisco, the broadcast delivered spectacular 4K UHD picture, using HEVC compression technology to minimize the required bandwidth, along with the highest quality encoding using an HEVC/H.265 codec developed by Cisco. Cisco added that the AnyRes 4K Encoder brings leading edge quality for real-time media delivery applications such as live sports, and best-in-class reliability and stability required for high profile, must-see events. The Cisco AnyRes platform can stream multiple formats to any device, including iPhone, iPad, feature phones and smartphones, as well as delivering pristine ultra HD video to TVs.
