TELUS Announces $2.1 Million for Free Wi-Fi Network at Commonwealth Stadium

Canada's leading service provider with close to 14 million customers, TELUS this week announced a free Wi-Fi network worth $2.1-million at the Commonwealth Stadium, working along with the Edmonton Eskimo Football Club. The service will be opened to all stadium visitors, regardless of service provider, to enhance their game-day experience. The full-stadium free WiFi project is expected to be completed in August with the official launch scheduled to take place at the Social Media Night, presented by TELUS, on August 21 when the Edmonton Eskimos take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

As Wi-Fi is made available throughout the stadium, the game-day experience will evolve with the new technology, including the ability to "Tweet Your Beats" to select stadium music and participate in the TELUS Fan Photo Contest to be featured on the high-definition video board. Using the Eskimos app from the stadium, fans can enter on-field and in-seat contests as well as have team apparel delivered directly to their seats.

Len Rhodes, CEO and President, Eskimos
This is a major strategic investment. We have a commitment to use the latest technology to engage with our fans and give them the best experience possible. This joint investment with TELUS allows us to activate many of the in-game features our fans want to use on their smartphones and devices while they watch live game action in the home of the Edmonton Eskimos.

Nicholas Cartmell, Senior Director, Government Relations & Strategic Initiatives, TELUS
Whether it's checking the web for stats and rosters or sharing the excitement of the game on social media, smartphones have become an integral part of the football experience. TELUS has deep roots in Edmonton and this partnership ensures that our customers and neighbours here have access to the most advanced technology as they are cheering on the Eskimos.
