NTT Comunications (NTT Com), this week announced that it will trial an enhanced DDoS orchestrator system to detect, analyze and defend against distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks using a testing environment constructed by multiple security companies. With the trial of the enhanced DDoS defense orchestrator system, NTT Com aims to become Japan's first telecom to provide multihomed anti-DDoS service.

Despite DDoS attacks growing steadily in both size and number, leading to Internet congestion and significant harm to companies, a large number of companies that use or provide ISP, data center or cloud services have yet to implement measures against increasingly diverse and complex DDoS attacks, said NTT Com.

According to NTT Com, the trial will test the operability of unique channel-control technology developed by NTT Com to minimize the negative effects, such as delays in normal communications, of implementing a DDoS defense. The testing environment incorporates NTT Com's unique channel-control technology (patent pending), which reports the Internet routes used by specific traffic and enabling traffic from a DDoS attack to be routed to optimized points in NTT Com's Global IP (GIP) and domestic OCN networks for Internet connection. The attacker's specific traffic is drawn to the system's DDoS defense devices, whereas normal communications experience only minimal delays.
