Cogent, a transit provider who distributes Internet traffic on behalf of businesses, has entered into a long term bilateral commercial interconnection agreement for public IP networks with Verizon to enable customers on the two networks to exchange data in an effective and efficient manner.
The agreement also includes new connections for Verizon Digital Media Services' content delivery network (CDN) to connect to Cogent's network globally, further improving quality for Verizon's CDN customers and Cogent's customers. The agreement contains provisions to add capacity and establish new interconnection locations between the two networks to stay ahead of growing traffic demands.
As the Internet continues to grow and evolve, Internet service providers are negotiating business agreements that allow exchange of Internet traffic in a scalable, resilient and reliable manner. Focusing on the customer, this agreement allows consumers of both Cogent and Verizon to enjoy high-performance speeds to enable new, high-bandwidth applications.
Last week, Verizon signed a similar deal with Level 3, agreeing to share the cost to add additional capacity between their networks.
